Shoe Factor

I know, I know. I am losing it when I start quoting characters from a TV series and a Korean idol drama at that (rolls eyes). Anyways, for what it’s worth, a person from Boys Before Flowers said this, “Good shoes take you to good places”. I suppose this roughly translates to mean that when you are well shod, you can do anything (that’s just my take). Well, can’t quarrel with that. So here are some “good” shoes to head you in the right direction.

Happy walking and good luck!

Thirst

For those who are fans of Korean movies, acclaimed South Korean film director, Park Chan Wook, had scored another win at the recently held Cannes Film Festival.

This time his film, Thirst, was awarded the jury prize. He had previously won the Grand Jury Prize (Grand Prix) in the 2004 Cannes Film Festival for the movie, Old Boy, which was recently remade by Hollywood.

Thirst is a vampire flick and this is the film's promotional poster:

The film’s name in Korean is Bakjui or Bat which could explain the poster’s picture of a woman hanging upside down apparently like a bat.

Here is a synopsis of the film from the Korean Film Council:

Beloved and devoted priest from a small town volunteers for a medical experiment which fails and turns him into a vampire. Physical and psychological changes lead to his affair with a wife of his childhood friend who is repressed and tired of her mundane life. The one-time priest falls deeper in despair and depravity. As things turn for worse, he struggles to maintain what’s left of his humanity.

It stars top actor, Song Kang Ho, Kim Ok Vin, Shin Ha Kyun and Kim Hae Sook.

The movie was released on 30 April 2009 and here is the director and his cast at the press conference and VIP preview screening which was held in Seoul on 24 April 2009:

2nd from right is Director Park Chan Wook. The acting cast from left to right are Shin Ha Kyun, Kim Hae Sook, Kim Ok Vin and Song Kang Ho.

Here is the film's trailer:

Pretty awesome, don't you think?

I have to pass on this one though since I am such a scaredy-cat when it comes to horror movies.

Fifi Ooh La La!

If you are wondering who is the most stylish bunny of ’em all, wonder no more. It’s none other than…drum rolls…Fifi Lapin. Well, that’s what Elle magazine UK proclaimed and who am I to disagree with a respectable fashion magazine like Elle? To prove it for yourself, here is just a sampling of Fifi’s cool designer togs.

Images: Fifi Lapin

There are loads more in her closet and you may check out her extensive designer collection here. It is enough to make any fashionista green with envy. And this trendy rabbit even has her own blog where she shares with you her jet setting lifestyle and shows you what designer clothes she is wearing daily. Oh yes, when she is not busy hobnobbing with the likes of Brad Pitt, Paris Hilton, et al, (with whom, by the way, she is on first name basis) at the Cannes Film Festival, Fifi operates her online shops selling her lovely artworks, drawings, prints, cards and photography. And if that is not enough, she is even featured on the bags of iconic American bag manufacturer, LeSportsac. How cool is that?

And that, my friend, I’m sure you'll agree, is “the world’s most stylish bunny”.

Thanks Fifi (and bunny kisses xxx) for letting us into your world. If a rabbit can have it this good surely I, a mere mortal, can too, right? I can only dream.... Ah well, in the meantime, let me just chew on my carrot. Chomp! Chomp!

Cannes Do - Postscript

Oh yes, and for those of you who have not forgotten that the Cannes Film Festival is ultimately a film competition (and not some fashion show) ;), the list of winners can be found here.

Cannes Do

The 62nd Cannes Film Festival which opened on 13 May 2009 ended yesterday. As much as it is a film event, it is also a fashion occasion of sorts with stars and celebrities from all over the world descending upon the French Riviera where the festival is held, in their fine designer clothes to walk the red carpet, attend film premieres, parties and functions. After scouring the net to check out what the celebrities were wearing, these are some of my faves:

American actress, Angelina Jolie, was amazing in Versace and you know what I said about women with bright red lipstick in my previous post, right? Sexaay!

Australian actress, Abbie Cornish, looking good in a gown designed by fellow countrywoman, Toni Maticevski -

More Abbie Cornish...

More Versace...
Malaysian-born actress, Michelle Yeoh, was fabulous in this green gown from Versace.

Also in Versace was Desperate Housewives star, Eva Longoria, who looked gorgeous and anything but desperate. Love the unusual flounces at the bottom of the dress.

Italian actress and director, Asia Argento, in Armani Prive. Love the pretty prints on the dress and oh, those shoes, ahh...purty, purty..
Indian actress and former Miss World, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, looked regal in this dress from Elie Saab Haute Couture.
Model, Devon Aoki, lovely in Roberto Cavalli. Nice colour for her fair skin.

Hot Lips

There is something sexy about a woman with bright red lipstick especially when she also has full lips.

Check out the very beautiful Korean actress, Song Hye Kyo, rocking the red lippy on the cover of the June issue of W Korea magazine.

And here to show you how you too may have sexy red lips is Katrina Szish of InStyle Magazine with tips on how to apply red lipstick.

Mwaahz!

Hot Pama

Whoever could have thought a pama (Korean slang for a perm) would look this good on a man?

Up and rising Korean actor Lee Min Ho is smokin' hot as the curly haired Gu Jun Pyo (aka Domyoji Tsukasa) in hit Korean drama, Boys Before Flowers, the latest adaptation of the hugely popular manga, Hana Yori Dango:

Boys Before Flowers is now airing over local free-to-air tv, Channel U, saturday nights at 9.30pm. Check it out cos' Lee Min Ho not only has the looks but he also has the acting chops to match.

Hot Mama

Singaporean actress, Zoe Tay, may be 41 and a mother of two boys but she is still one hot mama in this cute little number from Alexander Wang’s spring 2009 ready-to-wear collection at the MediaCorp Star Awards held on 26 April 2009.

Coming up next from her is new drama, The Ultimatum, which will be airing from 27 May 2009 onwards weeknights over MediaCorp Channel 8.

Flowers

“Flowers for My Life” (aka I Came In Search of Flowers) is the title of a Korean drama. There is this Korean ditty that has these lyrics “Why did you come here? I came in search of flowers.” Meaning why did you come to this world, what flowers are you searching for? Apparently, the title of the drama came from this song.

Main cast: Kang Hye Jung, Cha Tae Hyun, Kim Ji Hoon and Gong Hyun Joo
Directed by: Ji Young Soo
Broadcast period: May to July 2007

The story is about a girl by the name of Na Ha Na (acted by Kang Hye Jung). Ha Na’s parents ran an undertaking business. From childhood, she loved money and her life’s objective was to have as much money as possible. So she came up with a grand scheme to marry a rich man who was about to die and then inherit his money once he was dead. To achieve her goal, she left her rural hometown for the big city of Seoul. She decided to work as a nurse in a hospital in the hope of scouting a prospective (read that as rich) dying patient whom she could then marry. Pretty weird, huh? But then again, Ha Na was an oddball by her own admission. Well, meet a rich dying patient in the form of Yoon Ho Sang (acted by Cha Tae Hyun) she did. But here’s the catch. He was not rich BUT he was dying. What happens next? Watch this drama to find out. Trust me, it is well worth your time.

This is an excellent drama that tells the story of life and death in a humorous and moving way. It deals with the touchy subject of death but without its morbidity. It is about family, love and friendship all rolled into one. It is truly heart-warming and touching and is also funny. The acting, directing, soundtrack and cinematography are all great and it is definitely in my list of top ten Korean dramas.

Here are some pictures from the drama:

And here is lead actress, Kang Hye Jung, as she appeared in the current issue of Marie Claire Korea magazine.

Sexay, sexay!!
